Drink like a President and celebrate Joe Biden’s inauguration with this Bermuda Rum Swizzle.
A chilling Caribbean cocktail of blended rum, and sweet aromatic Falernum. Mixed with a generous combination tropical juices and a dash of bitters.
This juicy number is not just a popular Tiki cocktail but a favourite of non other than Franklin D Roosevelt.
F.D.R was the Presidential pioneer to cocktail drinking. As a keen sailor it's nice to think he first tried this tipple during a trip to the Caribbean.
The “Swizzle” Bar in Bermuda is noted to be the originator of this cocktail by a bartender called Del Pedro.
The cocktail is inspired by the islands rum production and collection of tropical juices. But it's uniqueness comes from the swizzle stick - a spikey stick plucked from trees indigenous to the island.
The ingredients are all combined in a highball glass with plenty of crushed ice. In goes the swizzle stick which is rubbed together between both hands to mix the ingredients and create a lovely frost on the glass like you would expect to see on a well made Mint Julep.
So get rubbing!

Ingredients
30ml Goslings
30ml Flor De Cana 12
25ml Falernum Syrup (If you don't have this, try my Festive Sugar Syrup)
30ml Pineapple Juice
30ml Orange Juice
25ml Lime Juice
2 Dashes of Angostura Bitters
2 Dashes of Fee Brothers Lemon Bitters (If you don't have this, reduce the Lime to 15ml and add 15ml of Lemon Juice)
Lots of Crushed Ice
Top with Grapefruit Ting

Swizzle Stick (Flat end stirrer if you don't have one)

Method
Fill your Highball glass 3/4 full with crushed ice, make sure you have lots extra for the end.
Fill you glass with all your rum, juice, syrups and bitters.
Then add your swizzle stick or stirrer (flat end down) into the center. Place the top in between both your hands and rub your hands together vigorously to mix your drink and create a frost on the glass.
Remove the stick/stirrer, top with grapefruit Ting and crushed ice.
...raise a glass and toast to the new President… Like a President!
