When you find a rum that is made by a distillery that is your name....twice! You just have to try it.

As I searched for some aged dark rum on drankdozijn.be I came across El Presidente Marti 15 year old for €36.95. What first drew me to this rum was the name, or more specifically the name of the distillery: Oliver & Oliver. This rum was calling me for me, quite literally. (i.e. my name is Oliver)

I couldn’t tell you much from the box as everything is written in Spanish. The only text in English is at the bottom: Rum for Connoisseurs. Let’s see…
As you take the bottle out of the box, I noticed that the bottle is green, which hides the actual colour of the rum which is a shame as when you pour yourself a glass El Presidente Marti has a beautiful caramel colour, a very pleasant surprise.
As you sip the rum you immediately taste a striking sweet caramel flavour which goes hand in hand with its colour. You see the flavour before tasting it.

caramel turns to a smokey, woody flavour and the rum lingers in your mouth, with a subtle burning sensation.
The first sip was a surprisingly good but drinking the rest was less enjoyable as the sweetness was a little too overpowering for my taste. Rum for Connoisseurs…I guess I am not a Connoisseur…
Rating: 3 out of 5 limes.
