Arguably the best "flavoured" coconut rum in the market!
Sadly the market for this rum is not global. I've looked everywhere in the UK for this rum and can't find a seller anywhere (if you know where to get some.... stock up!!! Then let me know so I can do the same. WAIT... actually tell me first!).
I got a good taste of this 17% (34 proof) at the end of the Flor de Cana rum distillery tour in Nicaragua. Read my review on it and if you find yourself there, make the pitstop, well worth it.
Surprisingly its aged for 4 years rather than being produced, flavoured and sent straight out the door. Based on their other rums I believe that they used natural means to gain the flavour with no sugar added. I don't know for sure but hope the Fat Rum Pirate puts it through its paces soon so we can find out.
Like all the Flor de Cana bottles it looks pretty slick. A squared bottle with a silver screw top... so no pop :(
Smell: There is only a slight hint of coconut despite a heavy inhale and you can definitely feel the alcohol in the nose.
Appearance: Crystal clear liquid like the waterfalls off the Nicaraguan volcanoes.
Taste: Wow! An explosion of intense coconut flavour. Slightly viscous liquid leaves a beautiful mouth feel and lingering after taste.
Rating: 5/5... in context of other flavoured rum in the market!
For the light drinker this is an easy rum to add to a mixer of choice or simply over ice. In a cocktail there is no better than a Piña Colada. If you get hold of some try my Nica Piña Recipe.
