KEY WEST CHEF'S GREEN COCONUT AND VANILLA BRULEE DARK - Rum Reviews

Transport yourself to a Caribbean beach hammock with Key West First Legal Rum Distillery Chef's range.

The second instillation of the Key West First Legal Rum Distillery Rums is the sub range aptly named the "Chef's" range. A clear nod to the owner and his cheffing past.

Sadly three of the four variants can only be bought at the distillery but im sure if you have read both the distillery review and the Key West rum's review you have already booked your flight over.

The range has four flavours, Real Key Lime; Caramelised Pineapple; Green Coconut and Vanilla Brûlée Dark.

All the ingredients are sourced as you would expect from a top restaurant chef. Eg only the best raw ingredients, cooked from scratch to create the extract and blended with the rum for maximum flavour without any artificials.

Time to have a taste...

Key West Chef's Green Coconut Rum is a solid 40% (80 proof). It's a crystal clear rum with high fluidity and no legs. When you smell, close your eyes! First comes the delicate coconut notes followed by the sweet rum. I'm immediately transported onto a hammock in the Bahamas. By using young, un-ripened coconut Paul Menta has created a really light, aromatic coconut rum. Not too sweet and super smooth.

Rating: 4/5... A really lovely rum.

Key West Vanilla Brûlée Dark is also 40% (80 proof). This rum is dark, like a glass of dissolved dark brown sugar with a tint of red and light legs. It has a strong smell of aged oak and caramelised oranges. The rum is light and warm. A hit of sweet caramel with a hint of vanilla.

Rating: 3/5... Purely because I don't get enough Vanilla Brûlée coming through for my liking.
