KEY WEST DEVILS AND DUVEL STREET SPICED RUM - Rum Reviews

Getting a taste of Key West's more unique rums on offer.

After my tour of Key West's First Legal Rum Distillery I had to get into some of the rums they are producing. Trouble is they have so many weird and wonderful rums to choose from I couldn't get to them all.

The most "off the beaten track" ones they had were the Key West Devils Rum and the Duvel Street Spiced Rum. Both these numbers are sold exclusively at the distillery so if you want... you are going to have to go there.

The Devils Rum is 35.2% (70.5proof) and despite the lower percentage packs its punch from cinnamon leaf oil.

The rum is dark and adds to the overall richness in both smell and taste. It's a really interesting tipple with a combination of spices, roots and herbs giving a comparison to Jägermister. This is a really nice and bold flavoured rum.

Rating 4/5... This rum is so unique it deserves it.

Duval Street Spiced Rum sits at 40% (80 proof) and is nothing like any spiced rum I have ever had before.

It's aptly named after the main boozy street in Key West. With ingredients inspired by the twist and turns you would expect on an evening out.

The boasted ingredients include cardamon, all spice, vanilla beans and basil of all things. An impressive list.

This is a really rich rum, without the sweetness you would expect and wow it has a spicy kick to it. Notes of cinnamon, nutmeg and all the other spices smack your tongue.

Rating: 2/5... Don't get me wrong I love what they are doing with this, its great quality. But I'm a 90s guy institutionalised by sweeter spiced rum so i'm not the biggest fan.

Due to the strong flavours both these rums possess I actually find combining the two with a Coke or Pepsi in a glass filled with ice is a great way to go.
