VERITAS - Rum Review

So if you love rum, you would have heard of Foursquare distillery. The tropical Barbados home of Doorly’s and Foursquare rum releases.

So when Veritas came about it started making waves, the rum community is excited! So what is it?

Labeled as a “white/silver” rum, Veritas is a blend of no less than 3 rums. The majority base is a rum from a Coffey Column Still followed by a Pot Still rum that's been aged for 2 years, both from the Foursquare Distillery. The final piece in the blend is an un-aged pot still from Hamden Distillery, from across the Caribbean pond in Jamaica.

So who is the inventor of Veritas, latin for “The Truth”?

Veritas was developed by Richard Seal. Master blender at Foursquare distillery and 4th generation family member at the distillery Richard is big on innovation like pressurised distillation and oversaw the new, upgraded distillery which was completed in 1996.

The Foursquare distillery is well know for delivering one off cask selections of exceptional quality. So this should be good :)

Veritas is at a higher proof of 47% ABV and follows a trend of revamped white rums like Diplomatico Planas and Doorly’s 3 years. It's designed to kick ass in cocktails and the bottle follows suite.

The bottle is perfect for the speed rail. It’s tall neck allows easy reach with a bubbled top to deliver consistent free pouring. The cork is a wooden top with plastic centre, sealed with foil like a bottle of fine wine.

The cork comes off with a squeaky release like a cheeky wine pop from the movies. Even the glug is poetic.

Smell: Immediately get a smell of strong fruits. Some citrus comes through but I’m getting peaches and honey with a hint or orange as well. Smells delicious.

Appearance: It's not a fully clear liquid, it has a yellow and rose tint to it which is coming from the 2 year aged rum as this blend isn’t filtered. The liquid also has a slight viscosity to it as it rolls around the glass.

Taste: There is a really nice, light sweetness to it at first. This is followed by the fruits previously mentioned. As the viscous liquid coats your tongue the 47% ABV builds, generating a little punch and some heat at the end.

Rating: 5/5... This is a lovely mix of flavours from two great rum distillery houses from the Caribbean.

I’m off to the home bar to rustle up some Daiquiris and you would be wise to follow suite. I also think this would go well as one of many rum's into a Rum Punch.
